Thrilling program from a company at the forefront of Cuba’s emerging contemporary dance scene.
Long known for superb dancers trained in national schools, Cuba is also now home to an exciting nascent contemporary dance scene. At the forefront is independent dance company Malpaso—playfully meaning “misstep”—which has been partnering with international artists to update Cuban dance without sacrificing its distinct identity. Passionate, fluidly athletic dancers perform works by Artistic Director Osnel Delgado, American choreographer Ron K. Brown—rich in African and Afro-Cuban idioms—and Canadian Aszure Barton’s vivid, idiosyncratic Indomitable Waltz.
An Associate Company of Joyce Theater Productions
Funded in part by the New England Foundation for the Arts’ National Dance Project, with lead funding from the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation and The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.
Events are free and open to the public unless otherwise noted.
