Gabrielle Cabrera

César Chávez Postdoctoral Fellow

Gabrielle Cabrera is the César Chávez Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Latin American, Latino, and Caribbean Studies. As a sociocultural anthropologist, she works with undocumented migrants in rural California. Her book project, tentatively titled, "Migrant Futures: Citizenship, Fieldwork, and Hope in the San Joaquin Valley," examines the experience of waiting for citizenship across several generations for undocumented migrants. Her broader research and teaching interests are kinship; agricultural fieldwork and social movements; affect, desire, and gender; and ethnographic writing. Gabrielle's research has been supported by the Wenner-Gren Foundation, National Science Foundation, and the Ruth Landes Memorial Research Fund. She completed her PhD in Anthropology at Rutgers University in 2024 and her B.A. at University of California, Merced in 2017.
