Christine E. Castro

Christine Castro is the César Chávez Pre-Doctoral Fellow in Latin American, Latino, and Caribbean Studies, and a Ph.D. candidate in American Studies at the University of Texas at Austin. Her work traces the intersections of industrial agriculture, police militarization, and incarceration in Salinas Valley, California. She is especially interested in considering rural agricultural spaces as highly surveilled carceral geographies.

Informed by her experience as a migrant student in California and Arizona, Christine is committed to work that increases educational access and equity for low-income, first-generation, and migrant students.
