Oxford Handbook of the Aztecs wins CHOICE award

The Oxford Handbook of the Aztecs (Oxford University Press, 2017), co-edited by Deborah Nichols and Enrique Rodríguez-Alegría, was recently selected as a 2017 Outstanding Academic Title by CHOICE.  Awarded to approximately 10% of 6,000 academic titles reviewed each year, the CHOICE Outstanding Academic Title award recognizes “outstanding works for their excellence in presentation and scholarship, the significance of their contribution to the field, their originality and value as an essential treatment of their subject.”  Nichols’ and Rodríguez-Alegría’s volume, comprising entries from scholars in the United States, Mexico and Europe, was hailed by the CHOICE reviewer for its “comprehensive treatment and the substantive nature of the 49 contributions…the impressive range of and depth of topics addressed is without parallel in Aztec studies.”  CHOICE is the leading source of academic book reviews for college and university librarians.

Nichols is an anthropologist who holds the William J. Bryant 1925 Professorship at Dartmouth.
