Professor Desirée Garcia, received the James Wright Sustaining Faculty Excellence Award, awarded to newly tenured and promoted faculty who have made significant contributions as teacher scholars.

Matt Garcia is the recipient of a one year fellowship from the American Council of Learned Scholars. Presently he acts as the chair of LALACS. He holds appointments in History and LALACS, and is the Ralph and Richard Lazarus Professor of History, Latin American, Latino, and Caribbean Studies, and Human Relations.

Professor Emerita Marysa Navarro has been awarded the Latin American Studies Association (LASA) lifetime achievement award at the International Congress in Lima, Peru, on April 30, 2017.
